Is it common to have cold feet in infants?

Question by anand: Is it common to have cold feet in infants?
Our son is 10 weeks old and he sometimes have cold feet. but his feet will be sweating. Our ped. told that it is common and babies are still learing to regulate body temp. Has anyone experienced this with your babies. My wife and I are concerned. The temperature of our home is around 65-70degF.

Oh ya. my son is now 8 months and still has cold but sweaty feet. The dr. didn’t say anything so i’m not concerned about it. I wouldn’t worry about it…but if you are concern, i would as your sons doctor.

It’s totally normal. Newborns have an immature circulatory system. Their hands and feet will normally be cold. Best place to check if they are cold or hot is to check their nape (behind their neck)..

Yup. I remember my son’s feet were purple for the longest time! I was worried. But, his circulation was ‘maturing’.

Its totally normal, dont worry. Put some socks on him but if you see he’s getting too warm just take them off.

Thats very normal, no worries. Your pediatrician was exactly right, your son just hasn’t regulated his temperature yet. My son’s hands always used to be like icicles, but the problem fixed itself around 3 or 4 months.

If you’re concerned he’s cold, check his neck. Our pediatrician said that’s the best place to check to determine if he is warm enough. You can also check the chest.

Cold feet usually only happen before a wedding, in my experience. Is infant marriage common in your area?
